The house is located on the outskirts of Vrhnika, at the transition between the Karst landscape and the flat expanse of the Ljubljana Marshes, in the vicinity of sinkholes protected as part of the area’s natural heritage.
The owners’ origins in the Primorska region informed the architectural concept of the house: an elongated floor plan covered by a pitched roof without eaves, with a steeper roof pitch required by the planning conditions imposed by the relevant authorities.
Openings are carved into the pure prismatic volume of the house, echoing the continuing expansion of the existing sinkholes. All four façades are designed differently according to the function of the interior spaces and the views they frame. The dormer in the attic is primarily oriented towards the views of Vrhnika, the Ljubljana Marshes and, in the background, the Kamnik–Savinja Alps.
The service areas are located in the basement, while the living spaces, including the living room, occupy the ground floor. The attic accommodates the bedrooms and workspaces and is characterised by a triangular, pitched ceiling.
